Just got my copy of Sebastian Bach's new CD Kicking & Screaming (ordered the Deluxe CD/DVD, haven't had a chance to check out the DVD). I've only listened to it a couple of times so far, but I can't say it's a good CD, not great, but definitely good. Sebastian's voice still sounds good although he sounds like he's lost a little range. I like the overall heaviness, but in my opinion he's only a good song writer, not great. If you're looking for something to take you back to the Skid Row days this will do that, but it in know way will make you forget those albums. Here's the first video:

I just ordered the new Anthrax CD, Worship Music, and the new Alice Cooper CD, Welcome 2 My Nightmare from Best Buy. Both were $9.99 with free shipping. the Alice Cooper CD is a special edition only available at Best Buy. I've listened to both already and they are both good. I'll right more about them later.

Due to the diagnosis Halcyon Way had cancelled their European tour with Fozzy & Stuck Mojo so he can begin aggressive treatment. Iron Maiden "The Final Frontier" Review

Iron Maiden's "The Final Frontier" is their 4th album since Bruce Dickinson coming back to the band and is their first studio album in four years. I have been waiting for this album eagerly and from the information coming from the band had very high expectations, too bad those expectations were not met.

I believe an albums opening track is the most important song on an album, it sets the mood for the whole album and should let the listener know what to expect from the rest of the album. This is strike one. The album starts with some ridiculous intro to the title track in which the first 2:30 is some kind of tribal drums and weird synth, then goes into another two minutes of Bruce telling some story mixed with the drums and synth, then the song finally starts. Over half of this track should of been cut off or at least made into a separate track so you could easily skip it. Once the song starts it actually is one of the better tracks and one of the most likely to make you think of the glory days.

The fancy intro problem repeats itself in a few other tracks, although none near as bad as the first track. Mother Of Mercy has 1:30 at the beginning that should of been cut in at least half before it gets going and turns into one of my favorite tracks. Isle Of Man drags on for over 2:30 before getting going but even then never really gets into gear. The Talisman starts with almost 2:30 of nothing before the song actually starts, but again it is missing something. The Man Who Would Be King does almost exactly the same thing.

Coming Home, Starblind, and When The Wild Wind Blows are all mid-tempo songs that never grab me and before they are finished I find myself skipping to the next track.

The only other track that even comes close of reminding me of the glory days is the first single, El Dorado, but even it just feels like a memory.

For a band consisting of three guitarist of the caliber of Adrian Smith, Dave Murray, and Janick Gers the guitars sound hollow and never make me want to bang my head like when I put in great albums like "Powerslave", "Piece Of Mind", or "The Number Of The Beast".

Favorite Songs: Mother Of Mercy, El Dorado, and the actual song part of Satellite 15...The Final Frontier.

Rating: 6/10

Well, another band I missed, but this one is definitely better than Bring Me The Horizon, at least the singer can sing when he's not screaming. The band is Black Veil Brides, the album is "We Stitch These Wounds" and the first single is Perfect Weapon.

Zakk Wylde was forced to cancel two Black Label Society shows, Sept. 30th in Omaha, Nebraska, and Oct. 1st in Clive, Iowa. Zakk was admitted a hospital in Nebraska with blood clots in his leg. He was first diagnosed with blood clots in August, 2009. The tour is scheduled to continue Oct. 2nd, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

They tried to do as many shows as possible but with the cancellation of the tour with Kamelot they were not able to make up for the missed shows. One of the first concerts I ever went to was Ozzy Osbourne in Sacramento on the "No Rest For The Wicked" tour (you know, his retirement tour). Well, it was also Zakk Wylde's first tour with Ozzy. That record and that show made me a diehard Zakk fan, and when he released the first Black Label Society album "Sonic Brew" I was hooked. In just over ten years BLS has released eight studio albums, one live album, and two compilations. I'd like anyone to show me any other musical artist you has been that productive.

"Order Of The Black" starts off rocking with three fast paced tracks in a row, Crazy Horse, Overlord, & Parade Of The Dead. All three songs are great rockers and Zakk's voice has never sounded stronger, and if anything his vocal range is either expanding or the production is getting better. A ballad, Black Sunday, is next and followed with a couple of mid temp rockers Black Sunday and Southern Dissolution. Time Waits For No One is another ballad. Zakk picks it back up with a couple more rockers again with Godspeed Hellbound and War Of Heaven. Shallow Grave is another ballad Chupacabra is a short acoustic piece similar to short pieces Zakk has put on about half of BLS albums. Riders Of The Damned is another mid temp rocker and the album finishes with another ballad, January. The Best Buy version includes two bonus tracks, Junior's Eyes and Helpless, both ballads.

I normally don't like doing track by track listings in my reviews, but I wanted to show the mix that BLS does, mixing up tempo and mid tempo rockers with ballads. The mix is pretty good, my only real complaint is with the Best Buy version the end is weighted a little heavy with the ballads, and you kind of makes the end feel like it drags on. I really think they should of made one of the bonus tracks a rocker.

Over all I love this album and think it is one of Black Label Society's best. If this album doesn't make you a BLS fan then nothing could.

Favorite songs: Another tough one, but the ones that stick out to me are Godspeed Hellbound, War Of Heaven, and Overlord.

Rating: 9/10

Sister Sin "True Sound Of The Underground" Review

Hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, Sister Sin have released their third full length CD "True Sound Of The Underground". I had heard of them before and heard a little of their previous CD "Switchblade Symphony" but wasn't overly impressed, but I kept track of them and then when they announced their new release and I got a listen to the first single "Outrage" I knew I had to hear more. I ordered the CD from Victory Records and I haven't gone a week without listening to it at least once since.

From the first track, Sound Of The Underground, Sister Sin let's you know that they mean business. Sounding like the bastard child of Motley Crue (Too Fast For Love era) and Judas Priest (Screaming For Vengeance era) Liv and the rest of band play catchy yet gritty metal about teenage rebellion and angst. My favorite song is Better Than Them, it just has a great groove and a great message about not caring what other people say or think about you. The closes thing they come to for a ballad is "I Stand Alone", which you can guess by the title is not a love song and definitely rocks. The album is full of anthems, and if you don't catch yourself singing along I don't have much to say about your taste.

I got to see them live last month, you can read the review of the show, I'll just say they were everything I was hoping for I would go see them every chance I got.

Favorite songs: This one is hard, because there aren't any bad songs, but my favorites are probably Better Than Them, Nailbiter, and Beat Em Down.

If you consider yourself a true rock/metal fan then there is no reason you shouldn't check out this band and buy their CD. My only real complaint is the CD booklet, I wish they would of included lyrics. The last thing I have to say is that I believe if there was a male singer singing the same songs Sister Sin would get a lot more attention, and that is a shame because Liv proves that a female can be just as strong and gritty a singer as any guy.

Mike Portnoy Leaves Dream Theater

Mike Portnoy, founding member and leader of Dream Theater, has decided to leave the band after taking some time off and playing with some other bands this past year.
